"Gandhi and his goat"
| Although this may be a reference to Gandhi's pacificm, even towards animals, there is also another possible explanation. It may be a reference to a 1932 Merrie Melodies cartoon called "I Love a Parade". Released on August 6, 1932, the cartoon was nearly seven minutes long and comprised mainly of "circus shenanigans". Gandhi is introduced as "the skinny man from India" and is accompanied by a dancing goat. Gandhi is representative of Great Britain, and the goat is representative to Ireland in this song. Gandhi plays the flute and the goat dances. Gandhi is not in a position of mastery to the goat, but nevertheless, the goat has ties to Gandhi. This cartoon is available on laserdisc on the Golden Age of Looney Tunes Vol. 4. | ![]() |
